ercol at Arsenal Emirates Stadium
Working with Viaduct, ercol were delighted to supply our 1663 Svelto stacking bar stool to the Arsenal Emirates Stadium. The oak stacking stool was selected in both a natural oak finish and in a bespoke darker finish. The 1663 bar stool is part of our modern Svelto collection, designed by our in-house design studio and made in our factory in Buckinghamshire, England.
Strada, the Italian restaurant group, have selected ercol’s classic 392 originals stacking chair in black for a number of their current restaurant refits. The first to feature the ercol chair was their restaurant in St. Katharine Docks in Central London. Overlooking the marina, this restaurant is just a stone’s throw from the Tower of London and London Bridge. With Strada's trademark range of freshly made hand-stretched pizzas, pastas, salads and secondi, it's the perfect place to relax after a day's sightseeing.

Benugo – Birmingham New Street
Approach Birmingham New Street station and you are met by a shiny wall of curving reflective panels. Step inside and you’ll find a welcoming Benugo restaurant. Situated before the barriers, it is accessible both to passengers and to those visiting the shopping centre above the station.
Ercol were delighted to have our 392 stacking chair chosen for this prestigious new location. The chair has been shown in both a white painted finish and in a dual finish with the chair seat in a clear lacquer, showing the natural beauty of the wood, whilst the legs, lists and back are in a red painted finish.
Regent’s Bar and Kitchen
Founded in 1998, Benugo operate restaurants and cafes in many of the UK’s most popular public museums and galleries. Since November 2013 they have provided the catering in Regent’s Park through a number of venues dotted through the park.
ercol were delighted to have our 392 stacking chair, part of our Originals collection, selected for the refurbishment of the Regent’s Bar and Kitchen. Located in the Inner Circle, the Regent’s Bar and Kitchen offers wood fired pizzas and a range of other meals, alongside a grab and go selection. With a combination of indoor and outdoor seating it is a great place to take a break whatever the time of year.
Just a stone’s throw for Liverpool Street Station and opposite the RBS offices, lies the Bishopsgate Kitchen, a vibrant modern restaurant with a backdrop of an old brick façade, having been cleverly created by enclosing the space in front of the old building. This is part of Benugo, a group with a range of high quality restaurants and eateries, including in many of our most august museums and public places.
Benugo selected ercol’s 392 stacking chair in our traditional finish as one of two chairs used throughout the restaurant. The 392 stacking chair was first launched in the 1950s and was designed by ercol’s founder. It now forms part of our Originals range – a small collection of some of our most cherished designs from our back catalogue, lovingly reissued.
Imperial War Museum
In the centenary year of the outbreak of the First World War, the Imperial War Museum has reopened after a major refurbishment. This includes a sophisticated looking new café, just off the dramatic atrium where hang a collection of planes and rockets.
The entire restaurant is fitted out with ercol 392 stacking chairs in black painted finish. These stacking chairs are part of our Originals range – a small collection of pieces from our back catalogue, lovingly reissued.
ercol are delighted to be working with EAT, supplying the ercol bar stool into their shops. Founded in 1996 with the ambition of providing the best food, soup and coffee in London, EAT now has over a hundred shops in the capital and further afield.
A key aspect for EAT is that their sandwiches, soups and salads are all made in their own kitchen, with just a one day shelf-life from maximum freshness.
The ercol bar stool was originally hand made for our designers to sit at their drawing boards in the days before computers. It was only made available for sale recently as part of the ercol Originals collection – a collection of our favourite heritage pieces.
We were delighted to provide bedside cabinets and chests of drawers from our Pinto Bedroom range to Student Cribs in Manchester. Student Cribs mission is to provide comfortable, well equipped houses in the best locations in University towns & cities throughout the UK. Founded in 2002 by Charlie Vaughan-Lee, then a student at Bristol University, who felt there was a lack of decent quality accommodation available for students, Student Cribs now have over 100 properties. Pinto has a soft painted colour finish with contrasting natural oak tops and is just one of ercol’s collection of bedroom ranges.
Fields Bar & Restaurant
Since they were founded just fifteen years ago, Benugo have opened cafes and restaurants on the High Street, in our museums and castles and in work places, with their emphasis on creating and serving great, fresh and simple food. ercol have previously worked with Benugo, supplying our stacking chair in a dark finish for their restaurants in Stirling and Edinburgh Castle. This time it was the English capital, with our stacking chair in a clear finish for their new Fields Bar & Kitchen in Lincoln's Inn Fields.
Fields blends into its parkland surroundings through the extensive use of timber and is located between the park and the tennis courts in this oasis of green. ercol were delighted to work with Path Design and Benugo to supply the chairs for this project.
Waterstone’s flagship bookstore at Piccadilly in London has a huge range of books displayed across five floors in the largest bookshop in Europe. Waterstones were founded in 1982 and now have some 300 stores throughout the UK and Eire.
With so many books to feed the mind it’s also necessary to feed the body and Cafe W on the Lower Ground floor does this wonderfully. ercol were delighted to provide all the chairs for the café, with a mix of our Windsor chair, stacking chair, love seat, bar stools and 1459 coffee table.
Collins Place, Melbourne
ercol's partner in Australia, Temperature Design, has recently completed an installation of 60 ercol bar stools in black painted finish in the Food Court in Collins Place, Melbourne.
Collins Street is a major street in the central Melbourne running approximately east to west. It is notable as Melbourne's traditional main street and best known street. It is also often regarded as Australia's premier street, with some of the country's finest Victorian era buildings and most prestigious boutiques and high-end retailers.
Collins Place combines fine dining, theatre, shopping and pampering, in the modern surroundings of Melbourne’s bustling CBD at the "Paris End" of Collins Street.
River Cottage Canteen - Bristol
Located in St. John’s Court Hall, a Grade-II listed 19th Century church building, the third River Cottage Canteen offers a combination of freshly prepared seasonal, local, organic and wild food, on a daily changing menu. River Cottage was founded by writer, broadcaster, chef and campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Hugh is widely known for his uncompromising commitment to seasonal, ethically produced food.
ercol were delighted to work with Simple Simon Design in Bristol to supply our Holland Park chair for this lovely restaurant. The Holland Park chair was designed for ercol by renowned British designer Russell Pinch.
Butterflies in Paris
Recently our butterflies have again crossed the Channel, with two installations in Paris, both by Chzon Design. Located in the Quartier de l'Opera in Paris, Mojo is a kitchen bar whose chef places an emphasis on carefully selected ingredients sourced directly from small producers. Mojo serves sandwiches and salads at lunch time and, when night falls, the restaurant turns into a friendly wine bar with a selection of home-made dishes. Bright colours a plenty, dimmed brass lights, and ercol's limited edition walnut butterfly chairs.
Meanwhile, Paris's latest hip hotel is situated halfway between Gard du Nord and the prestigious Opera Garnier. On a typically Parisian street, Hotel Paradis is a privately run hotel with 38 rooms.The nearby Grands Boulevards are perfect for shopping and evening entertainment with an array of theatres and cinemas. The bedrooms are wonderfully furnished and include ercol's butterfly chair in our traditional special light finish.
Las Iguanas, Southbank Centre
The latest las Iguanas to take the ercol butterfly chair in aqua painted finish is part of a modern, glass faced building that runs parallel to one side of the Royal Festival Hall. Las Iguanas have a superb location, being just off the Thames and so can be reached by a pleasant walk over the Golden Jubilee Footbridge from Embankment tube station. The restaurant is on two levels, an airy, light-filled upper level and a cosy downstairs, with the butterfly chairs on the first level as you enter the restaurant.
Itoen Tea Garden
ercol's classic windsor chair in a stylish new Itoen Tea Garden shop and tea house in Japan. The chairs were supplied through our distributor in Japan, Daniel Ltd.
Chiringuito las Sardinitas
ercol love seats bask in the sun at this restaurant on the shore at Barcelona. The restaurant chose the ercol love seat in half-painted blue and red finishes, the paint feathering into the natural timber.
The new Perkin Reveller restaurant sits adjacent to the Tower of London. The restaurant takes its name from one of Chaucer's characters from the Cook's tale - Perkin enjoyed food, drink, dance and merriment. The Tower Wharf, where the restaurant stands, was built under Chaucer's supervision during his time as Clerk of the King's Works in 1392. The restaurant has placed a high emphasis on commissioning specially bespoke items and was the first project to take ercol's new Holland Park chair. This was designed for ercol by renowned furniture designer Russell Pinch. For the Reveller we customised it by including Chaucer's shield in the back rail and by branding the name of the restaurant on the underside of the seats.
ercol at Westfield
Situated on the upper floor in the modern Westfield Centre, adjacent to the Olympic Park, las Iguanas provides a taste of Brazil. ercol's butterfly chair in aqua painted finish was chosen for the restaurant. ercol's Originals collection are a popular choice for restaurant seating and are available in a range of stained timber or painted finishes we've chosen for this season's colours aqua, mandarin and navy, along with our permanent black and white options.
Completing the double with Edinburgh Castle, where we supplied our stacking chair for both its restaurants, we recently provided our 392 stacking chair in our rich, dark TR (traditional) finish for the Unicorn Cafe at Stirling Castle.
The Castle traces its turbulent history back through over 900 years. The Unicorn Cafe, which takes its name from the many statues and images of unicorns around the Castle, combines a bright and modern servery with an atmospheric seating area with whitewashed and natural old stone walls. It even has a rooftop patio, from which you can get stunning views of the surrounding countryside whilst enjoying their traditional Scottish cuisine. For more images visit our Flickr site.
ercol were delighted to work with Historic Scotland, Benugo and Path Design to provide the seating for Edinburgh Castle's Queen Anne Restaurant and Red Coat Cafe. ercol's stacking chair in the rich, dark TR (traditional) finish was selected for this project. The Red Coat Cafe provides a break for coffee & cake or more substantial refreshment part-way up the climb up the castle slope, just off the Middle Ward. Then, when you reach the highest area of the Castle, at Crown Square, there's a further chance for refreshment at the Queen Anne Restaurant, with waiter-service and traditional Scottish fayre, prepared and produced from local ingredients in the Castle kitchens. So next time you visit Edinburgh Castle, why not take a rest on an ercol chair whilst soaking up the historic surroundings?
