Bishopsgate Kitchen

Just a stone’s throw for Liverpool Street Station and opposite the RBS offices, lies the Bishopsgate Kitchen, a vibrant modern restaurant with a backdrop of an old brick façade, having been cleverly created by enclosing the space in front of the old building.  This is part of Benugo, a group with a range of high quality restaurants and eateries, including in many of our most august museums and public places.

Benugo selected ercol’s 392 stacking chair in our traditional finish as one of two chairs used throughout the restaurant.  The 392 stacking chair was first launched in the 1950s and was designed by ercol’s founder.  It now forms part of our Originals range – a small collection of some of our most cherished designs from our back catalogue, lovingly reissued.

EAT

ercol are delighted to be working with EAT, supplying the ercol bar stool into their shops.  Founded in 1996 with the ambition of providing the best food, soup and coffee in London, EAT now has over a hundred shops in the capital and further afield.

A key aspect for EAT is that their sandwiches, soups and salads are all made in their own kitchen, with just a one day shelf-life from maximum freshness.

The ercol bar stool was originally hand made for our designers to sit at their drawing boards in the days before computers.  It was only made available for sale recently as part of the ercol Originals collection – a collection of our favourite heritage pieces.

Butterflies in Paris

Butterflies in Paris

Recently our butterflies have again crossed the Channel, with two installations in Paris, both by Chzon Design. Located in the Quartier de l'Opera in Paris, Mojo is a kitchen bar whose chef places an emphasis on carefully selected ingredients sourced directly from small producers. Mojo serves sandwiches and salads at lunch time and, when night falls, the restaurant turns into a friendly wine bar with a selection of home-made dishes. Bright colours a plenty, dimmed brass lights, and ercol's limited edition walnut butterfly chairs.

Meanwhile, Paris's latest hip hotel is situated halfway between Gard du Nord and the prestigious Opera Garnier. On a typically Parisian street, Hotel Paradis is a privately run hotel with 38 rooms. The nearby Grands Boulevards are perfect for shopping and evening entertainment with an array of theatres and cinemas. The bedrooms are wonderfully furnished and include ercol's butterfly chair in our traditional special light finish.

Perkin Reveller

Perkin Reveller

The new Perkin Reveller restaurant sits adjacent to the Tower of London. The restaurant takes its name from one of Chaucer's characters from the Cook's tale - Perkin enjoyed food, drink, dance and merriment. The Tower Wharf, where the restaurant stands, was built under Chaucer's supervision during his time as Clerk of the King's Works in 1392. The restaurant has placed a high emphasis on commissioning specially bespoke items and was the first project to take ercol's new Holland Park chair. This was designed for ercol by renowned furniture designer Russell Pinch. For the Reveller we customised it by including Chaucer's shield in the back rail and by branding the name of the restaurant on the underside of the seats.

Butterflies by the River

Butterflies by the River

There's a fine display of butterflies by the River Cam - ercol butterfly chairs that is. Cambridge's Las Iguanas restaurant has a wonderful location by the riverside in the heart of the city. Situated on the Quayside, you can arrive in style by punt, to sample their signature Brazilian dishes or have one of their too tempting cocktails.

And we think the restaurant looks stunning too, with ercol butterfly chairs in our aqua painted finish, providing a wonderful contrast with the darker timber floors and the painted wall paneling.

Pod Food

Pod Food

Pod Food is a rapidly expanding fast food chain, currently focused on London. They put great emphasis on healthy eating, ethical sourcing and the environment. Their ingredients sourcing embraces fairtrade, local sourcing, sustainable fishing and seasonality. Pod are unusual in using compostable packaging made from plant matter and they have a composter in every pod. This attitude is also embraced in the building of every pod, including the use of recycled materials and (here we come in) the use of British furniture. ercol were delighted to work with architects Waugh Thistleton and Pod to provide our stacking chair for their new restaurant, located in Shoreditch, just off the Old Street tube roundabout in the ground floor of a prestigious new apartment complex. ercol supplied the stacking chairs in clear finish, white painted finish and in a special green painted finish to match the Pod corporate colours.

The Unicorn Cafe, which takes its name from the many statues and images of unicorns around the Castle, combines a bright and modern servery with an atmospheric seating area with whitewashed and natural old stone walls. It even has a rooftop patio, from which you can get stunning views of the surrounding countryside whilst enjoying their traditional Scottish cuisine. For more images visit our Flickr site.

Camphill Communities

Camphill Communities

Recently we supplied furniture to two of the Camphill Communities. Camphill is an international charity supporting children and adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems and other special needs. It does this through a network of communities both urban and rural, which provide a caring, supportive and stimulating environment. Each centre aims to provide opportunities for personal growth, fulfilling work, friendship and social interaction, education and training.

Botton, near Whitby, has grown to become the largest Camphill community. Its farm provides work both on the farm itself and in its dairy, food centre and bakery, with products available in the village store & coffee bar. Its workshops make a variety of goods including wooden toys, dolls, candles, woven and printed items.

Glencraig Community is located on a beautiful estate sloping down to Belfast Lough. Founded in 1954, today it encompasses around 200 people, with 19 houses, a school and workshops, with the farm at its heart. Glencraigs school and training college caters for children and young people from 6-19 years and provides adult education. In addition forty adults with learning difficulties live in the communities houses, sharing their lives with their co-workers and families.
